Business Action Against Corruption (BAAC) is a collective multi stakeholder action by government and the private sector to tackle corruption. The programme was developed at the invitation of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) to improve the conditions for doing business and thereby promote investment and sustainable development in Africa.

    Roundtable on new strategies to combat corruption in Africa

    BAAC is undertaking a project to develop a comprehensive benchmarking system for measuring progress regarding anti-corruption in Africa. The project is being driven by the BAAC and the CBC in conjunction with key official African institutions, including the African Development Bank, Eco-nomic Commission for Africa and the African Union Advisory Board on corruption. The aim of the project is to develop a benchmarking tool, which will provide a broadly based assessment meas-ure that is able to identify gaps and measure progress regarding anticorruption regimes and proc-esses at a national level in a properly contextualized manner, thereby reducing reliance on purely perceptual measures.

    1st Working Group meeting on the Benchmarking Initiative on Anti-Corruption

    A cross sector Technical Group of experts, consisting of partner institutions involved in the development of the Benchmarking Initiative with the role of strategically guiding the development of the indicators of the tool and to implement outcomes of the consultative processes. This inaugural Working Group meeting, which was convened by GPAD-UNECA and the CBC (14 – 15 November, in Addis Ababa) comprised of participants from BAAC, CBC, UNECA, SAFAC and the AU Board.

    BAAC Botswana launches Code of Conduct

    The Botswana Business Action Against Corruption (BAAC) on Monday 26th September 2011 launched their code of conduct for the private sector. The launch was held at Business Ethics workshop jointly organized by the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) and the Botswana Confederation of Industry and Manpower (BOCCIM) with support from the Southern Africa Trust Hub.

  • Malawi holds business symposium

    The Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) in collaboration with the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the Malawi chapter of Business Action Against Corruption organized a half day business symposium on 22nd September 2011 at Mount Soche Hotel in Blantyre, Malawi. The symposium, whose theme was ‘The National Anti-Corruption Strategy; Key Factors and Implications for Business Practice’ attracted participants from the business community including the media and the general public.

  • Tanzania BAAC Chapter Launched

    As part of activities commemorating Tanzania’s 50 years Anniversary, the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF) led the Tanzania business sector to launch the BAAC chapter in the country. The event was held on 19th September 2011 at Monvepick Royal Palm Hotel in Dar es Salaam.

    Good governance and Regulatory Leadership Forum

    This forum was a joint event with the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the director general of the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and 80 Directors of leading Nigerian listed companies to strengthen the corporate governance system, a key issue in reforming the business environment.
